Evaluate the dream

2.10.2010 | Blog

I have posted before about how to put action to your dreams.  The first crucial step is to evaluate the dream by asking the question, “Is this something that is worth you putting a deadline on”.

I find that putting a deadline on any project brings it to life.  ”I want to go to Disney with my family one day”, is a dream.  But when my wife and I said, “I want to got to Disney with my family in 2012 when our kids are 3 and 6″ is real.  Now we are saving for this, planning for it and trying to get our daughter over her ridiculous fear of all freakishly large rats.

If your dream is not worth putting a real deadline on, ditch it to a “someday/maybe” folder and get it out of your system.  Worrying about dreams that you aren’t willing to sacrifice for is just silly.

What is currently a personal dream of yours that you have not put a deadline on?  Have you got milestones along the way (for instance some time in 2011 we have to go to Chuck-E-Cheese in our house before we drive 9 hours to the other rat)

What is a project in your work project list that has no deadline?  Good news is you will meet the deadline…bad news is you will never actually get it done.

What is a day dream that you find yourself replaying in your head everyday?  Put a deadline to it.  Delegate things in your life to make room for it.

Or is it not worth it?
