• Lost 60 percent of those that started ministry 10 years ago

1. Mistakes we make
   1. Not being myself – we started to see life. Being. Changed when realized this
   2. Didnt preach on stewardship – people don’t mind you talking about money just talking in right way
   3. Hiring too fast – hired a lot of friends – look at character, competentcy, etc
   4. Too much to fast – launche campus too soon – make sure you have margin and take time to rest
   5. Putting ministry first – your only healthy leader if you have a healthy marriage
      1. I’m only a good husband if my wife says I am
      2. Weekly date nights
      3. You have a vision for church but not marriage
      4. Leading out of a healthy marriage is so great
2. Sometimes people will hurt you
   1. Do not do life alone
   2. You need Jesus but you need Friends too
   3. Pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up

• Church was birthed in change… Not stagnant
• Don’t chase the trend , your church is doing the new thing now.
• Freshness comes from the spirit of God, not from the  next thing
• We don’t need the next one of anyone, we need the new thing God is wanting to do
• If you keep looking at the next, your gonna miss the new
• Don’t get too cool for school and keep the Holy Spirit out of church
• Don’t pour new wine into old wine skin, seek God instead
• Ensure your doing the same church we know but differently
• If you wait upon Lord, he will give you your strength
• Our job is to train and equip the saints to do the work of God
• It is better to be marked by God than be marketed by Man
• You can stay planted, you don’t have to do the next thing
• God does not need your opinion but just your labor and obedience
• Don’t discount one thing to embrace another

• Jesus saw himself as a servant who was given ability and honor to lead
• Leadership is much more than best practices.

  • Jesus modeled rest in the storm when he rebuked the storm on the boat because he was asleep

  • (1) unbroken fellowship w/ God, (2) learn to leave it, (3) learning to say it is Good
  • Get out of the Rat race and live well

I just came from lunch at Howards.

Howard’s is the kind of place you don’t have in most cities.  Think Cheer’s + Andy Grifith with a well natured and kind “Soup Nazi“.

When I walk in Wanda knows my name and tell’s the kitchen to start a “Wayne”.  It’s the off-menu omelet  I order named for the only other person allowed to order it.  I have not yet convinced her to let me call it the “Shawn”. Every man must have a dream.

While I was in Howard’s today I saw no less than 12 people who attend Freedom Church.  Some days it’s more.

Howard’s is a great example of why church in a “town” is different.  In a day when Church planting is often centered around a huge city with millions or at least hundred’s of thousands of people it’s good to know that God is using churches all over the country to share a life-giving story in towns.

So for all of you who have found God’s calling for your life in a town, in most cased that is a municipality of under 15k people, when you eat at your version of  Howard’s this week remember this truth.  God is not only the God of the city, he is the God of the Town too.
