This past weekend in the midst of preaching I saw something in our text that 6 weeks of study had not revealed. I love how sometimes God likes to surprise even the most planned out amoung us with something new…
It happened as I was reading this scripture:
Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico. None of the rest dared join them…
Acts 5:12-16 ESV
None of the rest DARED join them.
Notice that the scripture does not indicate that the apostles would not allow them to join. It also does not indicate that God did not want them to join.
It indicates that the people were watching all God do amazing things through these men of God and that they were too afraid to join them. They did not have the courage to join.
The others allowed fear to keep them from being a large part of the greatest movement in all of humanity and denied them of their ultimate desitiny.
What are you afraid of?
Are you afraid of being in a community group where someone will be there to disciple you and speak into your life? What are you missing because of that fear?
Are you afraid of really worshiping God with everything you have? Afraid that some may see that as weird or strange?
Are you afriad of giving and not taking? Making the leap to be generous with your time, talent and treasure for fear of losing what you have (so little) when in reality you will be losing what you could have (so much more).
Are you afraid of giving God everything and allowing him to save you? Really being his child and no longer the king of your own universe?
I think many of you need to put aside your fear and join us on the porch – good things are happing on the porch!
